The Olympics will be held in Tokyo this time. July isn’t far away and the preparations are being held. But among the busy scheduling and preparation, The sexist remark by Tokyo 2020 Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori has garnered a lot of hate and outrage.
He commented during a closed room board meeting that meetings with women take longer because women keep raising hands and are far too competitive. Mori commented that board meetings with lots of women take longer, women are competitive — if one member raises their hand to speak, others might think they need to talk too.
When Japanese media came to know about this, there was an outrage. Then Mori had not decided to resign from his position. But after all the criticism over his overly sexist comment, he has been forced to resign from his position as the head of the board.
He said that he hadn’t prepared to resign. But the bad media is creating a lot of chaos. It is hampering the organization. That’s why he believes that it is in the best interest of the committee that he resign
Mori said that – the important thing is the games will be held in July. “If I am going to be a distraction to organizing the Games by being in my position, I think that is a situation we should avoid.” His remark has caused a lot of chaos, he is apologetic for it.
Mori made the statement in a closed room but it was somehow leaked. Women gave been furious over his comments. Japan already has a huge gender gap, compared to advanced economies. This comment has not helped Japan in any way to improve the position of women in the country.
