The drug companies of the United States have said on Tuesday that by the end of March they are expecting 240 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. For emergency requirements only two companies in the United States are given permission, they are- Pfizer and Moderna. As per their promise, they will avail a total of 220 million doses ready to despatch.
Johnson & Johnson will be providing 20 million doses by March as it also got emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration for the Covid-19 vaccine. This company secured the authorization later this week.
Johnson and Johnson’s Vice President of medical affairs Dr. Richard Nettles said, “If the emergency use authorization is received this week, we hope to contribute to ending this pandemic as soon as possible.” The company is ready with 4 million doses ready to be shipped anytime.
AstraZeneca also is prepared with 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines waiting for authorization. It can also produce 50 million doses by the end of April said the executive Vice President and President of the biopharmaceuticals business unit of AstraZeneca. If this happens this vaccine will be the fourth one in line.
On Tuesday, in front of the Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation and the House Committee on Energy, all the executives from all these companies including Novavax swore to provide vaccines.
Both Moderna and Pfizer could not reach their target of production for 2020 on time. On Tuesday when they were asked they said the problem was in producing a completely new product and also the availability of raw materials.
