Texas is suffering from power outages in the middle of winter, and it is causing a lot of harm to the people. The power outage happened due to a winter storm and lengthy cold snap. But people say it had been coming for a long time. Texas suffered from 2.3 million power outages on Wednesday. The lack of power for days has causes the citizens to go into a panicked state.
Families have been cramped up in cars and even in homes without heat. Residents are living without heat, and suffering from problems like burst water pipes, failing water systems, and gasoline shortages. People have also gone old school and are burning firewood to keep their homes warm in the cold winter storm.
Most of the areas where electricity is supplied by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT are suffering from power outages. The counties bordering Mexico up to those touching Oklahoma, and from Houston in the east to rural Big Bend in the west. The east part is completely unaffected by the power outages.
US Rep. Marc Veasey, a Democrat who represents parts of Fort Worth and Dallas, said that he learned from an executive of the power grid that it was minutes away from failing. Before the failing state agency officials stepped in and initiated emergency rolling outages. Many are blaming ERCOT for taking things too far.
People are blaming ERCOT and Republican leaders for not handling the situation better. They should have prepared the citizens better for the outage in the cold. It seems the power issues are going to continue longer because of the weather conditions.
