Perseverance Rover which is affectionately called Perch has touched down the Mars surface and has sent images to the earth. The rover completed a journey of 292.5 million-mile journey from Earth, it took 6 months to reach the surface of the earth. The spacecraft is lovingly called Percy.
Percy shared an image from Mars with the rover’s shadow on the surface of its landing site of Jezero Crater. The team made a huge effort to make the mission possible during the Pandemic. Perseverance is an appropriate name given to the mission because the team did the best they could during a global pandemic.
NASA Administrator Steve Jurczyk said that the landing of Percy on Mars is a pivotal moment for our planet. Because we are on the cusp of the discovery of probable life on the red planet. He also said that perseverance mission was the embodiment of the “nation’s spirit of persevering even in the most challenging of situations, inspiring, and advancing science and exploration.”
Even President Joe Biden congratulated the team on the amazing landing. He said – “Congratulations to NASA and everyone whose hard work made Perseverance’s historic landing possible”
Humans have always been fascinated with life on Mars. There is a possibility that there could be life on Mars and everyone is anxious to find it. Percy can give a detailed report of images and the conditions on the surface of the red planet making things easier.
Percy has done many things for the first time in human history. It is the first equipment to search for signs of ancient life on Mars. It is also the first helicopter to fly on another planet and records the sounds on the red planet.
