It is common to find moisture problems in the basement. They are mostly not understood rightfully thus not treated well. Most of the houses are connected to the house through the duct-work or such openings. They are even used by some as living or bedroom spaces. The moisture problems then multiply manifolds.
It makes the space uncomfortable and uneasy to breathe in case of moisture in the basement. The carpets can become damp, causing mold and mildew to grow there. The same can be witnessed beneath the wall coverings. This all can eventually lead to health issues and significant damage to the house and well-being of the family.
Some problems are solvable especially when you understand them properly. So is the case when you need to dry your wet basement. Understand what is causing this problem, is it some leakage, rain water, less or no ventilation at all in the basement, dripping water from ducts, groundwater, poorly working air conditioners, wrongly done plumbing etc. There are many causes of basement moisture.
Sometimes the construction is the reason for the moisture. If there are cracks in the building or while it was being constructed the raw materials used were of degraded quality, or the water drainage was poorly built, it has caused the moisture problems now. Missing or non functional drainage systems are also major reasons for basement developing moisture and creating problems for the dwellers.
It is important you first research the problem and then approach it systematically to find a solution. Make sure the air movement in the basement is correct so the basement remains dry as much as possible.
