2020 was freakishly and hugely a disruptive year for the sports world. Unlike others, for golfer Tyrell Hatton, 2020 was a breakthrough year. Though he started to recover from wrist surgery at the start of the year and was placed at 32nd rank in the world, by the end of the year he placed himself in the top 10.
A rather big achievement for the sportsman. Hatton understands that 2020 was a very strange year and difficult for many but for him personally 2020 on the golf course was the best career year so far.
Tyrell Hatton has been in the professional game for a decade. He debuted in August 2011. In 2017, he fell over at the Masters slipping on the pine straw. A surgery was needed on a long term injury which led to his breakthrough period.
Since 2017 he has had an issue with his wrist suffering pain for two and half years. Several steroid injections were given to manage the pain to the point that it no longer was a sustainable solution. Thus the Englishman got it operated and that helped. He is now free of the pain.
Hatton was nervous about how he would recover and was thus apprehensive after surgery. It was a scary time for him but eventually, it worked out well. In 2020, the 29 years old came back to action after the long layoff he hadn’t hoped for.
Reflecting on the year in his words he says it was “obviously a very nice surprise.” He said that when one makes a comeback one is hoping to play decently and be in the contention. So it was great and made him really happy that he managed himself early back from surgery. He says, “We had a great week and thankfully it was my time to win.”
