Raya and the Last Dragon, Disney+ latest offering, other than being the cute, colorful film for children has a deeper message involving it. The film has a bold female lead who’s foundation lies in an underrepresented group embarks on a stirring quest with her cute and magical sidekicks. The film will surely be loved by the children as it is action packed, colorful and adults can join them too to know the deeper themes of the film.
With this film, Disney brings to its audience their first animated Southeast Asian heroine- Raya (pronounced Rye-uh). The character is of a warrior princess and has been voiced by Kelly Marie Tran, the actor from Star Wars movies. Raya takes a journey to fight the dragons, reunite the mythical kingdom of Kumandra and restore harmony in the world.
The last dragon in the title ‘Raya & the Last Dragon’ is Sisu, which is voiced by actor Eddie Murphy. The dragon can be considered the centerpiece of the action packed film. The character is goofy and the design of it is a little more cartoony than expected. It seems more like a plush toy than a magical creature.
There are many sidekicks in the film who add a lot of fun to the film. For instance, there is a transportation vehicle called Tuk Tuk, who seems like a creature and is extremely helpful. The animated transportation vehicle has been voiced by Alan Tudyk.
The film is filled with gorgeous imagery and has been helmed by four directors or co-directors, and 10 people to the story. The PGrated film premiered on March 5 in theaters and it is available on Disney+ too for an extra fee.
