On Wednesday, rioters stormed the US Capitol protesting against the electoral victory of President elect Joe Biden. Players and coaches across American sports leagues have shared concerns about the chaos and protests America is witnessing in the current moment.
Seattle Seahawks lineman Duane Brown said that people cannot be surprised by what has happened as it has been going on since long. It has been incited and provoked for the longest time. So one cannot be surprised when it hits you on your face but what it clearly states are the prejudices.
One can see the protesters are not being met with the same outrage and anger as past protests. He added he is praying for all that were involved. Some people were shot and injured for safety so he is praying for whatever best that can come from such a situation. But he again mentioned that the protesters have been provoked. Protests have been happening since the last few months now on several issues. NBA players recognized the shooting of Jacob Blake by kneeling down during the national anthem and after the opening tip at the games nationwide.
Last August Jacob Blake was shot seven times by a police officer. He was left paralyzed from the waist down after the incident. But the officer, Rusten Sheskey, did not face charges. Everyone can see the drastic difference in dealing with the protesters.
The teams of Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in Miami released a joint statement stating that they are playing the games with heavy heart after the decision of the officer not facing charges after the deadly incident. They can also see how differently people are treated by political leaders depending on what side of certain issues they are on. Today the protesters acted illegally encouraged by the fact how the protesters were treated this spring and summer.
